    • The general purpose of the speech was clear. 1

I think the general purpose was to inform.

    • The specific purpose of the speech was clear. 1

I think he wanted the audiences to know about the influence of Facebook posting on people's loneliness and how people can decrease their loneliness by posting something on Facebook.

    • The speech organization supported the speech's specific purpose. 2

I think the organization supported the specific purpose quite well. He began his speech by introducing himself as a loser, then he explained about the experiment and the results. He then explained how the results were possible. I think the speaker organized his speech well to inform the audiences about his topic.

    • The main points and supporting material contributed to the speech's specific purpose. 2

I think the main points were clear and his explanation about the experiment supported his specific purpose. Also, his ppt slides helped me to understand the presentation.

    • The beginning, body and conclusion reinforced the specific purpose. 2

I think the structure of the presentation was pretty good, and I especially liked his brief explanation about the main points at the beginning, and his summary at the conclusion.

    • The speaker achieved the specific purpose. 1

I think the speaker achieved the specific purpose, because I could understand the presentation and the main points.

    • The speaker appeared confident and sincere, with minimal nervousness. 2

He looked really confident and he didn't look like nervous at all. His voice was loud and he paused effectively. He also used big gestures.

    • The speaker did not rely on notes throughout the speech. 1

He didn't use notes at all, and it seemed like that he knew about his presentation's structure very well.

    • What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?

I don't think he needed the part when he said, "I want to find more losers here." at the beginning, because some audiences might don't like to be called as 'losers'. :P

    • What did you like about the presentation?

I really like the steady speed of the presentation and the speaker's pause. These helped me to follow the speaker more easily and I could understand the main points quite well. I also like the speaker's calm attitude because he didn't panic or got nervous even when he made some mistakes.

  2. Title: Relationship between facebook posting and feeling of loneliness
    Evaluator: Kweonho Lee (Self-evaluation)

    • The general purpose of the speech was clear. 1
The general purpose of the speech was to inform how posting status updates can decrease our feeling of loneliness. The purpose was clear because I explicitly stated my general purpose in the introduction of my speech and the overall contents were informative.
    • The specific purpose of the speech was clear. 1
The specific purpose was to suggest posting more status updates in order to decrease loneliness. Because my speech was focused on the positive effects of facebook posting, the specific purpose was explicit and clear. I also showed some pictures of my status updates in the end to directly suggest the audience that they should post more updates.
    • The speech organization supported the speech's specific purpose. 2
I organized my speech to help the audience understand the specific purpose. I showed the benefits of facebook posting by explaining the results of an interesting experiment and its implication.
    • The main points and supporting material contributed to the speech's specific purpose. 2
I made my main points clear by using lots of visual aids as supporting materials. I stated the two main points of my presentation both orally and through PPT before I move on to the body. I tried to visualize the abstract concepts such as feeling of loneliness and intimacy through use of pictures to make my points clear. I also used graphs and diagrams to help the audience understand the process and the results of the experiment.
    • The beginning, body and conclusion reinforced the specific purpose. 1
I began my presentation with a confession of my own experience and asking some questions to raise interests. I believe it worked as a nice hook to grab the attention of the audience. In the body, I explained thoroughly about the benefits of facebook posting based on the results of the experiment in the research. In the conclusion I summarized the main points to clarify my purpose and had an impressive ending by showing my own example of posting more status updates.
    • The speaker achieved the specific purpose. 1
I think my audience clearly understood my purpose because they didn’t seem puzzled or confused during and after the presentation.
    • The speaker appeared confident and sincere, with minimal nervousness. 3
I don’t think I looked confident enough and showed a little nervousness. My voice volume was appropriate and I used some gestures to look confident, but I had few minimal mistakes due to the nervousness. I wasn’t able to perform as I have practiced without the camera.
    • The speaker did not rely on notes throughout the speech. 2
I did not rely on my notes but I failed to give a perfect speech.
    • What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?
In terms of speech delivery, I had trouble coming up with the right word. I should have spoken more fluently by overcoming the nervousness. Also my intonation or facial expression was kind of plain without much variation. Giving more stress on important words and varying the intonation would make me look more like a professional presenter.

    • What did you like about the presentation?
I think the topic and overall contents were interesting. Also, as a presenter I tried to utilize all the strategies and skills we learned in the class from the TED video, or the book. I had come up with creative opening and ending which made my presentation more interesting to watch.
